The Plantation Affair by Gregory Jonathan Scott – Blog Tour Review

I’ve gotten this bad habit lately, I read books without reading the blurb. I either know the author or the genre or both so I just start reading. While this may at some point get me in trouble, I don’t care. Until now I’ve been pleasantly surprised. That is exactly how I dived into The Plantation Affair, and the experience was very interesting.

[blockquote style=”1″]During a time when love between two chaps was not spoken of, Deklan and Logan found a way to bring their affair of the heart to life. One was the white son of a wealthy Plantation owner, and the other a black servant who worked the property to survive.

This romantic fairytale took place in the deep south of Georgia in the late eighteenth century where horse carriages and kerosene lighted lanterns brought a town to life. Deklan and Logan’s affair was ignited one night with the help of a mysterious man who magically appeared and then disappeared without a trace after leading them into the realms of love.

Love was found, Love was lost and then Love was found again in a spiraling and uplifting fairytale between two lovable beings that were meant to be in love.[/blockquote]

My review:

Deklan and Logan’s story got me hooked from the start. The setting was interesting, a plantation soon after the abolition of slavery. There is the Royal heir, loved the name choice, and the mixed race servant that he falls in love with. Both lonely and trying to find meaning and acceptance in life, both full of love that’s just dying to be poured onto the right one.

Then comes the oh, hell, this is Cinderella! moment that got me jumping off my bed. Yes, the story does play with the Cinderella fairy tale we all love, but it’s a more realistic approach. Plus there are two princes. Shy, hot, unsure, falling in love for the first and last time because they have been lucky enough to find their soul mate. The shoe is replaced by a ring and the best part of it is that Deklan recognizes Logan before tying the ring on his finger. I always found it hard to believe that you find the love of your life, but you need a shoe to recognize her.

Deklan’s family isn’t very accepting of his preference of men, and try their best to make him follow their idea of a good life. He’s pushed into marrying who they want, and after finally discovering each other, Deklan and Logan will have to deal with this unwanted wedding and how it will tear them apart.

Gregory Jonathan Scott’s writing style seems fitting for this type of story: descriptive, warm, tender. It’s the perfect choice to tell Deklan’s and Logan’s tale. At the same time, you find yourself flipping the pages, eager to find out what happens. Will they be allowed to be happy, will a forced marriage ruin their chances? Want to find out?
