Monday Progress Report: Some Progress, No NaNoWriMo
If you’ve been keeping up with the blog, you know things haven’t been peachy in what my writing is concerned. Actually, I almost quit writing altogether. That proved to be a great, albeit forced, decision, which eventually lead to me starting to write again. Not much, but there were still words that I put on paper. Or typed on my computer, same thing!
The progress was really slow, a few hundred words over a month. I wasn’t forcing myself though, I just didn’t push till I was further trapped into a corner. The progress since that post wasn’t that great. I did get a couple of thousand words written in October. Progress, right? Not impressive, but it looks like I’m on the mend.
The truth is my life has been a bit crazy of late. Personal issues, family things to take care of, and some pretty complicated work related decisions I’ve had to make. It as enough to keep me away from my keyboard and focused on other things.
While I’ve decided what happens next with all the many types of work I do, and my schedule has cleared quite a bit, I still opted to skip NaNoWriMo this year. I do intend to write a lot more this month, maybe even break into the tens of thousands words by the end of November. I just didn’t want the NaNo pressure. While inspiring and always a good way to get me to write more, it really does not mix well with how I’m feeling. As the solution so far was to not stress out about not writing, I don’t see how switching to a self-imposed daily word count would help.
If you’re wondering where the 2000 or so words went, they are part of a new thing I am working on. Looks like it’s going to be novella length or even longer. It’s a contemporary gay romance story called The Boyfriend Club. I have a good feeling about it and I’m having fun writing it. So I will continue to focus on it for a while. The best case scenario is that the story is drafted and ready to be submitted by the end of the month. But even if I get a few more thousands words written, I’ll still look at it as being progress and call it a win.
Wish me luck! 😀
