Blog Tour Stop: Love Resisted by Melanie Codina
I’ve been recently introduced to Melanie Codina’s Real Love series and I am so thankful it happened. For some reason, it’s been a while since I’ve last read an adult romance where people do behave like adults. The book highlighted by the blog tour stopping by my blog today, Love Resisted, is a true gem. Yes, I am biased, and I will tell you just why, but I really liked this book! Allie and Mike are a great couple to stalk from one page to the next and the blend of dealing with loss and grief and finding love once more is very effective at pulling you in and never letting go till you reach the end of the story.
A little on the book, a blurb and Amazon details first!
For Allie Baxter, love was never something she had to worry about. She was loved by her friends, her family, her husband … until the day it was ripped away. Losing love was the deepest pain Allie had ever endured, and it was an agony she vowed to avoid feeling ever again. Crippled with guilt over her loss, for five years Allie served her self-appointed exile from the daily comforts offered by friends and family, only to return and attempt to fit herself back into their open arms—even if she knew she didn’t deserve it.Mike Lawson was not something Allie expected; the love of a man was not something Allie was prepared to want. The spark of desire that had long ago died inside her suddenly returned, bringing the memories of her pain with it.She swore she would never allow herself to love again … but how long could love be resisted?
Like I said, I am biased on this one! Allie is my kind of girl. Smart, confident, scaring all the guy friends although she’s tiny compared to them, loving her friends and family to death, perfectly capable of reading others, and ready to stand up for what’s right even if the guilty party that needs to be slapped around his her very own brother. But, and there is a but! Allie’s defense mechanism is a work of art! And this is where my bias comes in. I know a thing or two about building walls so high it would take a lifetime for someone to climb them. So seeing this so masterfully depicted in Allie, made me love her first, then hope they get torn down fast!
Enter Mike, the new addition to her friends’ group, a man she is immediately attracted to. I did root for Mike after his determination to bring the walls down became apparent. No fixing, no changing, his only target was to get to the real Allie. And in comes my favorite quote from the book:
The way Melanie Codina deals with her characters’ grief makes it extremely real. It makes pain palpable, it makes fear crawl up your spine and make your hairs stand. Just as gripping is the idea that everyone deserves a second chance at love, that lives goes on, no matter how hard we try to stop it.
Love Resisted is a funny, touching, but also educational love story. I consider it a must read. And I encourage you to do just that. Also, remember that for each copy sold during the month of October, Melanie Codina and her family will be donating $1. I invite you to read my interview with Melanie for more details on this book, her writing process, and publishing as an indie author.
About the author
Melanie is an amazing mother of four, an awesome and tolerant wife to one, and nurse to many. If you don’t believe her, just ask anyone in her family, they know what to say. She is also a devoted chauffer, the keeper of missing socks, a genius according to a six year old, the coolest soccer uniform coordinator according to a twelve year old, and the best damn ‘mac-n-cheese-with-cut-up-hot-dog maker in the whole world. Well that last title isn’t really official, but it’s still pretty cool to be called it.
When not being ordered around by any of the kids, you can find her with her nose in a book or on the sideline of a soccer game cheering on one team or another. But that’s mostly because she has a thing for the coach. When she is not doing all of the above, you can find her obsessed with a group of fictional characters all vying for a spot on the page of whatever she’s working on. It’s a fun and crazy life to lead, but wouldn’t have it any other way
